PERFORMING AT BIRMINGHAM CONSERVATOIRE

A group of 15 Grace Academy students who are all complete beginners, joined students from schools across the Midlands to play as part of the Modulo orchestra project at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

They played pieces by Schostakowitsh and Haydn and two Grace Academy students, Esther Afonso and Aleksandra Solojova put themselves forward to compose a piece that the whole orchestra then played – a fantastic achievement!

Since the start of the project in January, the students have learned how to read music and basic keyboard and musical skills.  Music Director Adam Hepkin said: “This has been an amazing opportunity for the students to build musical awareness, performance experience, confidence and team work, and they have had an amazing and unrivalled opportunity to perform at the country’s best-known concert hall.”
