18/12/21: End of Term update

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your support this term. We have had such a fantastic term of events, trips, extra-curricular and community events that we have been overwhelmed with such a positive response from the community – so I thank you for supporting us in this.

Over the last term we have had a number of extra-curricular events up and running, and we are so pleased to be able to offer students a wide range of activities they can get involved in – please encourage your child to sign up for as many of these as possible to allow them to truly widen their whole school experience.

This term, we have taken a number of students to a basketball game at Leicester Riders, and have also arranged trips to Aston University, Birmingham University, Adventure ways Northampton, Coventry Cathedral and Coventry Food Bank, with many more on the horizon. We want students to have a rich understanding of their community and the opportunities that are available to them in the future, with a key focus on raising aspirations. There are some exciting opportunities in the New Year that we look forward to sharing with you.

Our school nurture dog, Winston, has started to meet students and staff and you can already see how much of an impact for positive wellbeing he is making; we are incredibly lucky to have this exciting addition to our Grace staff family and Winston is enjoying being part of such a vibrant school.

The students have been exceptional this term, with assessments, mocks and the re-introduction of Covid restrictions. Our students have demonstrated such resilience in some challenging circumstances and we are really proud of their commitment to our core values of Amazing Grace, Intentional Excellence, Mutual Respect, Genuine Integrity and Limitless Potential. Whilst we cannot control the national circumstances, we at Grace Academy are remaining positive in the face of ever changing situations and are really developing our resilience. Our students have been exceptional in taking so much in their stride over the last 18 months and we continue to support them to ensure they have the most positive experience of their education that they can.

At Grace Academy Coventry we are looking for an additional Parent Governor who can offer support to the school in a professional capacity as we continue our development. This opportunity is a commitment to the school, and would suit a parent who has professional experience, either in education or industry, and would be able to support us with experience in HR, finance, communications or apprenticeship opportunities.  If you would like to have an informal discussion regarding this, please email sarahmcadam@graceacademy.org.uk for further information.

Our new website is almost complete! However, in the meantime please do continue to follow us on social media (Facebook and Twitter).

Academic Reports

Reports for this term have now been sent out for all year groups. Year 11 and Year 13 are full reports, and all other years are interim reports. Full reports will be sent out for Years 7 and 9 at the end of the Spring term and for Years 8, 10 and 12 at the end of the Summer term.

These reports indicate your child’s most recent performance in the first Assessment Point (“AP”) of this academic year and how that translates to a “working at grade”. This grade will then be updated after the next AP series, and then again at the end of the academic year. For students in Years 7, 8 and 9 you will also see your child’s current reading age, which is measured using Accelerated Reader and is assessed again later in the year.

Please use the information in these reports to support your child.  Please do not hesitate to contact the Academy if you have any questions.

Sporting Results

It has been particularly pleasing to see a return to extra-curricular clubs and activities, and specifically our competitive fixtures. Results from this term included:

  • Grace Academy 4-0 Caludon Castle (Year 11 football)
  • Grace Academy 1-2 Cardinal Wiseman (Year 9 football)
  • Grace Academy 42-18 Finham Park (Key Stage 4 Basketball)
  • Grace Academy 3-4 Ernesford Grange (Year 11 football)
  • Grace Academy 0-0 Caludon Castle (Year 10 football)

We are very proud of the commitment shown by our students to their sporting activities and we look forward to more exciting and challenging fixtures in the New Year.
