Army Cadets

Grace Academy Platoon is a closed platoon in Minden Company, Warwickshire ACF and we have been open since January 2014. Our detachment has so far won two silver awards. We have seen one cadet leave us to join the RAF and he has  since successfully passed both his  basic and trade training.

Cadets have taken part in parades, sports, shooting competitions, fund raising activities and community activities. Our cadets have represented the Company, County and some have even got through to National competitions in swimming and Athletics. We are the newest Platoon in our County but our cadets represent us in all competitions.

2017 should see our first D of E passes and our first BTEC  passes.

Students from Grace Academy can join us from Year 8 and they can remain with us until they are 18. There are opportunities to attend weekend camps for training and testing and cadets can also attend Annual Camp – one week away with our County.

We parade on a Monday and Thursday after school from 16.00-18.00hs here at Grace. With us here they learn; drill, turnout, military knowledge, skill at arms, shooting, field craft, navigation, expedition training, PT, first aid and cadet in the community.

No limits for our students

Grace Academy students have free music and singing lessons where they can access a wide range of instruments and borrow them to practise at home. Our students are also provided with free ingredients for their food technology lessons to help them learn the basics of cooking. Students who choose Hospitality and Catering at GCSE often hone their skills at school events to ensure they are well prepared for future careers in this industry.

As well as each faculty offering catch up and revision sessions it is also possible for students develop their unique interests from cooking, chess, dance or trampolining to art, music and drama. Exciting and fun opportunities

During the holidays all students can take part in fantastic trips, visits and adventurous activities such as paintballing, go karting or one of several thrilling theme parks. Alternatively they can try something different such as horse riding, canoeing or ice skating. Hundreds of young people take part in our fantastic annual summer programme which allows everyone to have fun, grow in confidence and try something new.

In the evenings we also have an establishing Army Cadets unit based in the Academy. When it comes to action, excitement and adventure, it’s hard to find anything that beats the Army Cadets. Students spend their spare time taking part in adventurous activities like rock climbing, mountain biking, archery and abseiling.

Through our community partnership with Mosaic Church (www.mosaicchurch.co.uk), we are also able to offer end of term events for students to come together to enjoy a safe fun event on a Friday night.
