RE: Year 6 into Year 7 Transition.
The transition from primary to secondary school is an important milestone in the lives of children and their families. At Grace Academy Coventry, we pride ourselves on providing our new students, parents and carers with a smooth and extensive transition program where students arrive on their first day excited about the next chapter of their education, rather than feeling apprehensive. This is even more paramount in these unprecedented times.
Liaising with the Primary Schools
In early June, the Transition team of staff here at Grace Academy Coventry will make contact with your child’s primary school as we work very closely with your child’s Year 6 teacher to ensure that we receive all the required information to support your child’s academic progress when they begin their secondary education here with us in September 2020. During this contact, we anticipate to arrange a virtual opportunity for your child to know more about life at Grace Academy Coventry and to answer any questions in which they may have to dispel any worries. This will include a PowerPoint presentation led by members of our Academy team.
Year 6 Transition Day
Unfortunately, due to the current Covid-19 situation we will be unable to continue with our Year 6 Transition Day that was scheduled for the 3rd July. We are however, regularly updating plans according to government guidance and have every intention when it is safe to do so to contact Primary schools and parents with our new plan and new ways for your son / daughter to start feeling part of the Grace Academy family. Please see details below of our Year 6 Transition page on our website. This is a fantastic way to stay up to date and even watch a tour of the academy and the classrooms and spaces our new Year 7 students will be working in.
Student and Parent Survey
In order to help us get to know the new members of our Grace Academy family we are asking all of our students, parents and carers to complete an online survey. This survey will be really helpful in getting to know you all during these challenging times where a transition day cannot take place. The survey isn’t long and the questions are very simple as they are all about you. The information taken from it will help us understand what your interests are, what you are a little apprehensive about and most importantly what you are looking forward to when you join us.
All you need to do is input the link details below into your computer, tablet or phone and follow the instructions. There a 2 questionnaires within the survey. The student survey is first followed by the Parents and carers survey. Please support your son / daughter to complete their section.
If you require a paper copy of the parent / student survey please contact the academy using the contact details below.
Student Task: Getting to know you.
In your pack you will find a letter from one of our Year 7 students telling you all about their time at Grace Academy and all the fantastic things you have to look forward to. What we would like you to do is write a response to this letter telling them about yourself and the things you enjoy plus what you are looking forward to doing most when you join us.
A few questions to get you started…
- What school do you go to currently?
- Do you have any brothers or sisters? Who do you live with? Any pets?
- What hobbies and interests do you have?
- What is your favourite subject and why?
- What do you know about Grace Academy? Have you looked at our website?
- What are you looking forward to most about joining us?
Feel free to add anything else you would like us to know.
The due date for this: Monday 6th July
To submit this you could do any of the following:
- Take a photo of your letters and email it to us at: Year7Transition2020@graceacademy.org.uk (Don’t forget to keep your original letter ready for September).
- Drop it into Grace Academy reception in an envelope with your name on it.

Within this transition pack there are a number of documents that are extremely important. These documents need to be read carefully, signed and returned to us by Wednesday 8th July.
